Hey All,

I have a 1927 Chevy that is ready to have its Radiator shell plated. I realize that it was nickel plated originally but my plater says that chrome is better because its less maintenance where as nickel tends to tarnish.

Has anyone hade problems with nickel finishes tarnishing? Is it a lot of maintenance?

If I have my car judged will I lose points for chrome?

P.S. My rad shell is steel and not aluminum.

Canadian cars came with steel shells nickel plated. You will loose points if you have it chrome plated. Honestly, the chrome is more maintenance free.

Thanks Ray.

I am located in Ontario, Canada Which is why the shell is steel.

The problem with adding a thin chrome coating is the appearance. If you wax or otherwise protect the finish it will last a long time.

Having experience with an 28 f#$% product nickel is a consent polish job, see if your plater can do what is called hard nickel and document it for judging. AL
