Clearance on the rods should be tight enough so you can slide them side to side on the crankshaft but loose enough so you can tap them side to side with light taps of the small ball peen hammer included in the tools supplied with the car when new.

Should have read: Clearance on the rods should be tight enough so you can NOT slide them side to side on the crankshaft BY HAND but loose enough so you can tap them side to side with light taps of the small ball peen hammer included in the tools supplied with the car when new. Sorry my mind went faster than my fingers can type.

If you are talking about ring gap, the formula is .004" per 1" of the bore size, or as specified by the ring manufacturer.

Thanks for the information fellows on the bearings and the ring gap.

I have decided to use plastagage on the mains and the rods and would like to know the torque for both.

Would appreciate any information you might have.

If you use plastigage they will still be too loose when you are finished. Follow the shop manal instructions that Chipper gave.
