Depot Hacks, as they are known, were built by small fabrication shops for different purposes. Companies in this bussiness would buy just a motorized chassis including Firewall or Cowl and then build the carriage portion to suit the customer. Many were built to transport people to the train Depot, hence the name, Depot Hack". Others were built as the first form of " Pick Up Trucks". I had a 26 Chevy that started life as a delivery truck for a Lumber yard, then became the work truck for a carpenter and finally during my ownership it became a Depot hack. (Open station wagon).
