The best thing to do is to call Hampton Coach and get an estimate on the cost of their complete upholstery kit for your vehicle. Then, check with a local upholstery shop to see how much it would cost for them to install the kit....or how much they would charge to completely reupholster the car from scratch. Then you will have an exact figure. Either way it isn't going to be cheap. Is there an acceptable material other than mohair I might consider for the seat? I am a little confused regarding your above question because in an earlier posting in the 1929-32 forum you stated the following: I'm doing a long term garage restoration on my 1931 dlx coupe, and I'm trying to get it right .
To "get it right" means to go with the correct upholstery material. At any rate, good luck with your project. You should have a lot of fun with the restoration.

If you are true to the "Art of restoration", save your money until you have enough funds available to purchase the correct fabric for the '31 Chev. A friend of mine was able to set up payment plan for his '35 Ford interior from Lebarron Bonney which owns Hampton Coach.
Hampton will send you a packet of information with a selection of fabric choices to choose from.
I don't have unlimited funds so I tend to try to tackle the job myself. Hampton Coach/Lebarron Bonney have videos on their internet site that demonstrate how to install the seat covers onto the springs. This is the most difficult part ofthe interior installation and it is not that hard once you see the video.
The headliner, door panels are easy and there are instructions available as well. The kit also comes with instructions.
There is nothinng worse that a nice mechanical and paint restoration then someone went "Cheap" on the most noticable part of the car, the interior.
The people that are happy with the "Cheap" interior are really happy with the "Cheap cost" and have compromised on authenticity and quality to get the Cheap cost.

Below is a copy and paste from a MS Word table. Maybe people can copy and paste it into a blank MS Word page and recreate the table. It takes two pages for entire table. If the copy/paste does not work then email me for a copy.
The data comes from Chevrolet parts books and took several hours to put together. I retain the copyright for the table but allow VCCA members to use it for individual use. Distribution to unauthorized persons or for sale is prohibited.

All this talk about interiors got me interested in my 31 again. Though I am years away from any restoration on this one, I still buy parts for the future when I can and store them until needed. Being that prices continue to go up every year, and intrest rates are at their lowest, I believe it is time for me to invest in an interior for my car.
Financially what may be lost in interest on my money is greatly offset by the rise in cost of the interior over the years.
I filled out the form on the Hampton Coach web site to have the Free interior sample kit sent to me.
For the past year, I have been having the chrome parts re-plated and I have put the lesser quality stuff (extra parts) back on the car just to keep it intact and running.
Being unemployed for the last 2 years, I have to meter my savings in relation to my projects and calculate the cost of money in relation to inflation on parts. Now is the time to buy before our dollar is worth even less.
Hope this is an inspiration to others contemplating the decision to purchase parts for our old habbits in this economy.

I restored my '41 in 1999. I bought the complete interior kit from Hampton Interiors. I had them cover my sunvisors, got front floor mat, headliner, door panels on the boards, all material for front and back seats(using only my springs), material for deck in front of rear glass, etc. Everything for the interior except the rear floor mat. I got a piece of carpet from a local upholster for the rear floor. I installed the kit. Everything was good quality and fairly easy to install. The instruction were a little hard to follow but it went well. I believe the kit was in the neighborhood of $2000.00. They have a kit for most cars. If I restore another car (which I am not going to do) I would go the same route. Worked good for me. Good luck JIM
