I don't believe a 1941 passenger came with a crank although one was available through the parts department. Check the General Information page in the front of the shop manual - bottom of the page. The 1942 manual says crank for truck only.

My 41 Coupe has a small removable piece in bottom center of grille. When this piece is removed, it reveals the path for crank to run to damper. The damper bolt on front of engine has two ears or cogs. A pin thru end of crank would engage in these ears.

I'm wondering whether the wheel lug nut removal tool might also somehow double as engine crank.

Although the 1941 and 1942 has a ole for the crank dosen't mean a crank was furnished in the tool set. The 1941 also required a crank guide if a crank was used. It was a litttle bracket the was fastened by the front center bomper bolt and held the outer poration of the carnk in the correct position. The 1942 did not require this because there was a rail running between the front bmper guards that has a guide built into it and a cover with a bow tie covered the hole when crank was not used. The 1946 and 1947 had no center grille moulding so a crank hole was not necessary..The 1948 could not be hand cranked because there was a wide center gro=ille moulding with no hole. The crank for a 1941 would have had two pins on one end that caught the balancer and was not combined with the lug wrench.

Actually the starting crank was basically a 3/4" diameter rod with two opposite 90 deg. bends to make the crank. No lug socket was on the crank end. The other end had a 3/8" diameter rod fitted in a drilled hole that mated with the crank balancer/pulley. The overall length is 33 1/8" long. I might be able to take a picture tomorrow when the Boss returns with the camera.

Chevgene and Chipper, you really know the nitty-gritty details! Look forward to the photo, Chipper. Think I may have an old crank, minus the little pin in the end. Will be helpful to compare to your photo. Thanks very much to all.
