On ebay I see that there is some beaded webing for sale that is a shinny black, the stuff I got from the F.S is a dull black Who's right. Also When putting welting on a 31 between gas tank cover and body, how do you keepit in place when you have to shime the body up for the doors?

There is no welting between the rear body and the gas tank cover. There is only welting between the gas tank cover and the fenders. I believe the 1/4" Gap between body and gas tank cover is to allow some movement between the two, and also to allow for body to be shimmed as needed. You notice there are no bolts or other fasteners here to connect the two (which would be necessary if a bead was sandwiched in between)and that the gas tank cover is screwed directly to the rear cross member.
So this is one less job to do!

On my '34 Master there were rivets along the top edge of the gas tank apron. What did they hold? I thought there might have been a welting or an anti-squeak, similar to the top of the running boards. Or maybe something like cowl lacing. Does anyone know?

Those rivets hold the welting to the rear apron on 33 & 34
