can some one help me and tell what the tell tell signd are for a correct close ratio 3 speed manual tansmision are and maybe a picture, and i am new to this site how do i post a picture of my car

i have a 250 hp 57 210 with its original close ration 3 speed and the only way i know to differentiate it from the base 3 speed is to disassemble it and count the teeth on the gears. i believe the 57 parts book will list the # of teeth. mike

You could remove the side cover and mark a tooth with a marker, then count them as you rotate the gears.

The gear to count is the main drive gear (input shaft).
It has more teeth than a std gear. It is also a larger diameter that makes it as large or larger than the bearing.
Been a long time since I had one apart, but I think you have to remove it from the rear of the case. A regular ratio gear can be removed from the front of the case.

It and the cluster front gear, are the two gears that are the close ratio.

If I remember correctly the front opening of the case is larger for the close ratio.

One way to check that is the bearing number for the input shaft.
