The '55 Belair needs a new shift indicator. I have a replacement part and need advice on how to access and replace that part. I tried removing the dash and steering column trim. That didn't seem to be right approach. Any advice will be appreciated.

The procedure on how to do the job should be detailed in your 1955 shop manual.

I checked the manual before starting this, seemingly simple, task. I may have missed something. My copy of the manual; section 9-6 and related, doesn't get into that procedure.
Thanks, 37Blue

Which part of the shift indicator mechanism are you trying to replace? The rod? The spring? The lens? There's a picture on page 9-7 of the manual.

Sid:
I am needing to replace a damaged lens (PRNDL). The shop manual has the maintenance details for most of the other parts except that one.
Thanks, 37Blue

When I replaced my lens, I removed the instrument cluster, and the lens was removed from the backside of the cluster. While I had it apart I had the speedometer rebuilt, replaced the gauges and light bulbs, and lubricated the speedometer cable.
