Hey all,
I recently read a topic about someone that converted their Cats Eye to a 12v using all new lighter parts but still kept their cats eye top. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of where to get these parts for a 38, I went to Napa and Pep Boys, but neither of them seem to be able to help.

Thanks,
Davis

A 1938 is not 12-volt!

If I had known that growing old would be this much fun---I'd have done it sooner!

A 6 volt lighter will not fit in a 12 volt socket and vice versa. You need to purchase a 12 volt socket from any FLAPS. How you create the lighter portion is up to you, but the cat's eye and the 12 volt element need to be joined.
I have a 6 volt POS GRND setup but am able to run 12 volt accessories with an inverter/converter unit I picked up from eBay. I only wired the new 12v lighter socket to the converter. I don't really care about the element because I don't smoke, but it's available for a show if necessary. I find that the GPS is much more useful in that spot than an element, and if necessary, my cell phone can be recharged as well.
