Yes this will fill some space don't add to much at the end of shaft.May make it tuff to get clip on.I think I would make a round piece like a straw.Then flare the end going on shaft then push handle on?

Maybe were talking about differnt handles? I am in reference to the exterior door handle, rather then the interior handle, which i know comes off with a clip.

If you find that you can't repair the handle Verdone's in PA makes polished stainless steel duplicates that were made from molds of the original. I bought a rumble seat handle from them when the original handle broke. They can be reached at (717) 949-3341 Looks like chrome but much more durable than the original plated pot metal.
