hi everyone...i am a new guy here on the site. i have a 1938 chev master business coupe that i am restoring and in bad need of the steering gear for it. i took out the mustang steering box that it came with and now i have nothing,i am not sure what the original draglink should look like either. on ebay there is a steering box and pitman arm from a 1937 master deluxe coach that came out of a running car in 2010 that is being rodded. would this fit my coupe and work ok. because of the different ratios and internal changes in the steering boxes of the master and master deluxe cars, what should i be looking for?.would the master deluxe box be the more desirable of the two?.

Well, this one could be long or simple. Do you still have the original I beam axel? Drag link is different for delux with kneeaction front end. I have some sets of used tie rod and drag links of both if you are going back stock. The 38 box is different from 37 and most say it is better.

Randy, thank you so much for your reply to my post.the information you gave is very helpful to me..thanks.yes my car does have it's i beam axle which i prefer and intend on keeping.the car is still mostly all stock but i need an original 1938 car steering box. on Ebay i bought a pitman shaft and bushings, pitman shaft housing, pitman arm, steering wheel, steering column bushing from the filling station and a new draglink from an antique parts company, but i don't think it's the right one,i can't see how it can work. i bought these parts with the hope that i could rebuild a used box or be spare parts for a good box if i could find one. the search has been a little frustrating but i really enjoy the hobby....Ron.

First of all, welcome to this site. I am sure you will find this a great place to visit.

Have you had access to a Master Parts catalog? Here is a link to one online: Steering Gear
I have a 38 Master with a straight axle. The sheet metal is still on the car at the moment but I can go and look at it when needed if it would be helpful.

I got two steering boxes with my 38 coupe, BUT, the column was cut off both of them. I used one for a while with a coupler to a tilt column. This has been changed now. So, I have these two steering boxes. I assume they are both 38 and they do bolt up to the frame in the correct position. If you are interested in one or both let me know
