What is the correct type of lube to use for 6-volt Delco genrators? Same as the engine, like 30-wt.? stressed

As always, TIA Bob wink

I prefer to use a lighter weight oil. Actually, any fine oil will work.

The oil actually soaks into a wick for the rear bushing......and the wick rubs on the shaft. I would use a motor oil like 10W-30. Would not use 3in1 as its too light. Not even recommended for eletrical motors.

Thanks guys! I'm in the process of redoing two generators, a 943J & a 946C. New bearings (double sealed ones, so no lube needed), new bushings/wicks, new oiler cups, gaskets and paint. I'm also rebuilding a RJH-08 carb and an extra fuel pump. If and when I finally go on a trip down "that long lonesome highway" with my '29 coach. It will be well stocked with spare parts under the rear seat........ bigl yay

Thanks again, Bob wink

I wonder, should I look under the rear seat of my 1928 sedan?

I found a bunch of stuff under the front seat, but I have never had the rear seat cushion or seat back out...in fact i never thought about how to get it out!, I hardly ever sit back there, I have used the spaceious rear floor to haul all kinds of tool boxes, ice chests, and stuff, that my better half and I "discovered" in various junque shops on tours....

Just take a look in the G&D for the SURPRISE* articles. All kinds of things can get under the back seat.

When I first got my coach I looked under the rear seat. To see what kind of treasures came with it. I found the original hand crank, spark plug socket and a spare crank hole cover. dance

It has been assumed that early open cars came with the top saddles under the back seat. I have suggested to some owners when they contact me as the TA to look under the back seat. Some have found the saddles still under the seat.

I looked under the back seat of my '30 Phaeton soon after I got it. No top saddles, no tools, no money, no viking hood ornament......... only a mouse skeleton. I often tell my grandchildren that there was a skeleton in the car when I got it and nobody knows the history. Absolutely true.

All the Best, Chip
