I just adjusted the valves on the 28 Coach yesterday and the book said .006 on intake and .008 on exhaust. The 28 Chevy engineering specs say .013. Would that be the assembly plant cold settings? I set them to book specs and even though it ran very nice before, it now runs even better to a point I don't think it could be improved anymore. I set them while running the first time and then set them again by turning the engine with the crank handle and rechecked them 3 times. Nailed it!

Bob,
You were correct to use the book settings.

Yes! I would run it down the road for at least a half hour before adjusting just to be sure the temp is evened out where it would be during normal driving and also keep the valve cover on as much as possible if you have to stop and get a tool or answer the phone or the like to keep the heat in. I also noticed some crud under the rocker arm and valve stem area which I cleaned off before adjusting. She really purrs now!
