I have a 34 Chevy 2 door sedan, it is from florida but is now in Ca. I have the Vin number on the title but need to find where the vin is located on the car. If i can't find it if i have the number can i get a new plate made and put on the car being that i have the number?

Hi Kristen and welcome to Chevy Chatter II,

This is a fairly common question about these older models. The number on the title could be either from the motor number or the car serial number. Per se, there is no VIN number as it used today. Here is a link to the 34 Owner's Manual. This will tell you where the numbers can be found.

If you are looking for the car serial number, it may very well be missing. These were just small metal plates nailed to the floor board on the passenger side. There are some people who make replacement plates, but I don't know what the legal issuses would be in just replacing the plate. That being said, I do know of some individuals who have done just that. Good luck with your car, and once again, welcome.

Happy Motoring,

Dan

If you post the vin number X ing out the last three numbers, I can teel you if it is the motor number, which was used in most states piror to 1955 , or the serial number.

Normally, the authorities highly frown on tampering, changing, or replacing car serial numbers and VIN's....especially in California. If you want to install a new car serial number plate, I would wait until after you get your car registered and titled in California and then install the new car serial number plate with the correct numbers stamped on.
