Hello everyone. I have not been on here for a long time due to no computer after I retired. I went out and bought one and Ye Ha I'm back. Anyway I was adjusting my distributer yesterday and my wrench was on the bolt and I touched the solenoid and there were some sparks. I went to start my truck and there was nothing. I don't know anything about eletrical and need some advise on what to do next befor I screw anything else up. Any help would be great and thank you. It good to be back. I did check all the fuses and they look good.

Sounds like you could of fried the solenoid. Do you have a meter that you could check voltage to and from the solenoid? That will tell you if It needs replacement.
Good luck,
Richard

Thanks P.U.Guy, I waas just working on it this morning and I think you hit it right on the head. I think the burnt soleniod is drawing all the juice from the battery. I have another brand new starter that I will install. Thanks for the help and good to hear from you again...Oscar

Hey Oscar, Good to see you back on line in the old chat site. How is retirement? I think that you have not been on line because you have been catching to many fish at the old fishing hole. Take care and good luck with the truck.

Lots of fish and lots of banjo and lots of car shows and lots of fun. I am really enjoying retirment. I put a new starter with the solenoid on today and there is no change. My cousin is coming up from Chico tomorrow and help me fix it. He owns a hotrod shop in Chico so I know he will find the problem. He thinks it ias my battery. We will see. Good to hear from you Sal.

Hi MrMack, sorry about the calls but I didn't want you to call me and have to spend money on phone calls. On my starter there is a solenoid on top of it and I don't have the foot starter, it is a push button on the dash type. I replaced the starter and solenoid yesterday and still the same thing. I put the charger on all night and will try it this morning and if that don't work I will get a new battery. Good to hear from you MrMack...Oscar

I doubt if it is the battery itself if there was just a short arc, if it was ok before the goof up. could be that cleaning the battery terminals on both ends will fix it. Does the lights and horn work? that would indicate a carbon arc on a battery post, to me. You gotta do arealy good job on the terminals and posts. Do you have the replacement battery cable ends that bolt on the end of the battery cable?

MrMack, I did all that and my cousin came up this morning and brought a meter with him and we determined it was the battery. The battery is about 5 years old and I had the charger on it all night and it wouldn't take a charge. I went and bought a new battery this morning and it works like a charm. One good thing out of all this, I have a brand new starter and solenoid now. I just think the battery was getting old. Thanks for the help.
