Looking at a 1948 Fleetline Aerosedan with the following paint number listed on the firewall tag: 379-*, or "379 dash star"
Does anyone know what the star means? The car is very original and I am certain the tag has not been altered. Thanks.

Try this site. They have color chips and color code numbers.

Mike,

Thanks for the reply but I am already aware of what the paint code 379 stands for. What I am asking about is specifically the "star" following the 379. I have never seen this before in looking at perhaps hundreds of Chevrolets. It is perplexing because the car has what looks like very original paint that does not exactly match the two-tone color scheme for 379. Again, does anyone know specifically what the "Star" means. Thanks.

OH, now I get it, you want a definition for the "*"

Not sure on my end, except that on the OEM, 1941 paint color chip chart, an * refers to a "metallic" paint color.

But there are a lot of VCCA guys who will probably know what the true "*" means.

Maybe a second listing under "Paint/Body" or a phone call to the tech. person of your car. {?}

Good luck,
Michael41
