Would anyone know the correct finish and color of the brake power booster for 1966 Chevy II/Nova?

I have acquired a used unit for my '66 wagon and it is painted gloss black, which I'm guessing is incorrect.

I think it is a Bendix, but not 100% sure.

Thank you.
Jeff

I don't know for sure about yours but on our 65 Impala it is a silver/cad/tin color. Our 74 Nova was the same. I painted the one on our Nova with the Krylon silver hamered finish paint and it has never veen questioned. It looks much like the original finish. It has been VCCA judged four times and AACA judged one time.

Hi Jeff,
If it is a Bendix it should be black with approx 60-70% gloss. The Delco-Moraine boosters were gold cad finish with subtle variations of gold-silver.
The Bendix boosters were slightly smaller in diameter and had a smooth front face while the Delco-Moraine units had what look like 3 soft large dimples on the front face.
I have yet to see a factory original '65-'70 Bendix booster in any other finish than black. Also,Bendix used a 2 letter paint stamped code easily visible on booster itself. Hope this helps,Jim

From what I came accross on the 62's the Factory installed PB units were Delco and were plated (silver cad in 62 and down) The dealer installed were the bendix units and they seemed to be painted black, I am not 100% with this but pretty darn sure of it

In the assembley plant in Arlington both Delco and Bendix units were installed, some were Cad plated and some were black. This was on A & B bodies but I can't point to specific models and years because I never worked the operation. The painted units were more of a semigloss black.

Dan,
I never saw a Delco that was painted black or a Bendix that was plated, also if you look the accy install manuals they only give instructions for the Bendix not the Delco, what years were you there?
John

FYI I have heard that the service parts for the Bendix units are pretty hard to come by

John,
I will try to clarify my comments. Maybe I should have been more specific. My comment was to point out that both the Delco-Moraine and the Bendix units were installed at the assembley plant, not about the difference in color. I agree that the Delco-Moraine was gold cad color and the Bendix was black. I did witness both units in the plant. I could tell many stories about "that is the way they came from the factory". Example: In 1963 during "build out" we ran out of Biscayne tailamps but had a big supply of Impala lamps. After an unsuccessful attempt to remove the stainless trim, rather than run a shortage the Impala lamps were installed on the Biscayne and shipped to the dealer.I went to work at GM in 1957 and retired in 1991. After seven years of retirement I went back and worked another two years in the shipping centers (railyards) as a Corporate Quality Auditor.

Hello Jim -- based on your description I am certain mine is a Bendix unit -- flat face, small diameter, black paint all over (multiple layers/glosses in some places). No visible paint code stamps -- probably under some of the paint.

Also found a copy of the installation instructions for installing an accessory Bendix unit. Feel lucky to have found that.

I will try to post a picture of the booster and the instructions.

Thanks to everyone for their input.
Jeff
