Hi Folks,

On to another part of the car. My muffler fell off some time ago and the new set of pipes and muffler arrived a couple weeks ago. Its a 1929 4-door sedan.

Can anybody tell me what kind of gasket to get where the pipe attached to the manifold? Where to get one? The Filling Station says
Quote:
Note: This system does not come with the flange gasket. The original gasket was flat and doesn't seal well. It's best to get a donut type gasket from an auto parts store that fits the pipe.
I though I'd ask here first. The pipe has a flared end, looks like another pipe fitted inside it, and a steel plate loose on the outer pipe that will bolt onto the studs.

When I took the old pipe off, pieces of a gasket were there but crumbled from age so much I can't determine the original shape.

Thanks,
Jim

Yep, that's correct. You can get the right size "donut" from your local auto parts store. It is a common exhaust pipe gasket. That's where I bought mine and it worked great.

Thank you JunkYardDogJunkYardDog and Mr Mack. Got the gasket for $2.80. But, I broke off the stud on the exhaust manifold.

Boy, I had really planned on driving this car more than working on it! That sure ain't workin out!

Jim, I installed new intake/exhaust manifold gaskets (and the one between the manifolds) about a year ago on my '31 pu and noticed that the studs for the exhaust flange were rotted away so bad they looked like 1/4-20 thread. I cut them off, centerpunched and drilled and retapped them. I then installed stainless 3/8-16 studs made from cutting the heads off of machine bolts. This should last for the next 75 years. Dan
