I am determined to get this vehicle fixed but it doesn't seem to get any easier. I need help. This is what I have done and then I will mention what I think I need to do. Car does start easier but still overheats at idle within 5 minutes.
I have taken radiator to be cleaned or recored, radiator shop wants $400 to just take it apart. He is just not interested. I guess he thinks he will take apart and find irrepairable. Who can I send it to that likes this kind of work ?
I removed water pump again to see if anything looked odd. From reading chat pages I have to much end play from pump impeller showing about 3/16 of wear. I just pressed shaft to remove play. Do I need to overhaul pump?
The cylinder head had a crack that had been repaired before. I took it to a welder and paid hinm $75. It still leaks and he is suggesting radiator stop leak. Leak is around cylinder number 3. I do not now if it is getting into cylinder, not sure as far as I can tell. Is the cylinder head repairable or do I need to find another one or would stop leak fix it?
I had taken the engine apart, had block rebored and put new pistons and cylinders. Camshaft is showing some wear and I did find one on-line but when I went to install it had a slightly larger diameter and would not fit. My thought was ow I would just install old one and if it caused a problem I could take out and have reground or take the oversize one to machine shop to match worn one. The drive gears to distributor could be an issue. Could the camshaft being worn and the valves not opening enough cause the overheating?
Where do I start?
