I didn't know if I should continue the Alemite thread I started or start this one.
Anyway, the adapter you put on the end of a grease gun that has Alemite on one end and regular on the other, puts more grease outside the joint than it does where the grease is supposed to go! In order to get this problem corrected, I took mine to a machine shop and had them lop off the regular fitting side and thread it to match the grease gun hose threads. This way,I doesn't leak as bad when you start pumping grease into the joint.

Just FYI

I have an Alemite adapter for my modern grease gun and it works great! However, my adapter only has the Alemite fitting on one end, it doesn't have the zerk fitting on the other.

That's a good question. I bought it at least 25 years ago and I don't remember where. However, it does have the brand name of "Alemite" on the adaptor. \:D \:D \:D

Check this Alemite site under pin type couplers: http://www.alemite.com/catalog/details.aspx?identifier=accessories_fittings_couplers

Click on the + for the 3 different ones available and it will bring up the picture.

I bought one of those a Zerk that snaps onto a standard Zerk coupler and the other end is a Alemite coupling. Import made for Gary Wallace at $25, probably China made. The alimite worked on the first two fittings then began leaking like crazy, the small brown washer came out and the thing never worked again for me, I had to fasten the junky thing in a vise to get it to release it's hold on my grease gun.
I gave up and bought a handful of good old Zerk fittings from NAPA and pulled the Alemites and replaced them with modern type (60 year old)Zerks...so much for being "old timey" but I can do a grease job without having grease all over me and the floor of the shop.

As mentioned earlier, I have been using my Alemite adaptor for about 25 years and never had a problem. It looks very similar to the adaptor that Alemite currently shows on their web site.

Why not use original pin type Alemite grease guns?
I've bought a tool kit size one and a shop size one on eBay for reasonable prices. My '29 Coach was converted to "modern" zerk type fittings sometime in its past. And I am slowly retrofitting it back to Alemite pin grease fittings. ;\) 1929 Chevrolet: A Six in the price range of a Four!

You can also remove the Alemite fitting on the end of an original Alemite grease gun and attach it to a modern grease gun as well. \:D \:D \:D

I know, since I have about 6 different Alemite ended guns in my collection of grease guns! That don't mean I have to us them.

Hey Heppy: I don't know what type you bought but the one I got from him has the zerk fitting on the other end and like Mack said, it pumps grease out of both sides and not where its supposed to go.And the zerk fitting holds on to the grease gun like a monkey with a fistful of peanuts! Also, since the grease is coming out of both side of the fitting, it means less oomph to put it where it needs to go.

Doug, thanks for the Alemite website. They have wat I want.

Capt Harley: Where on EBAY are they listed?

GOTTA31, I don't remember exactly where on eBay I got mine. But look under: grease gun, alemite, antique Chevrolet, 1929 Chevrolet, 1931 Chevrolet, etc., etc.

Working order, now that is the debatable quality of most of the old grease guns.......If I really wanted to pursue that process I would try to buy a new one from Alemite with a 1/8" pipe thread so I could screw it onto a modern Lincoln or Alimite gun via a 12 or 18 inch flex hose.....

O.K.---I've got a Lincoln pneumatic grease gun with a flex hose on it. So I'll order just the alemite pin-type ends and put them on the rest of my grease guns. I really wasn't after an antique for collections. I just want some working grease gun ends.
Thanks for the help and info. I'm learning more everyday from all you guys.
