Need some advise. Is there a limit for play in the Rear Leaf Spring Seat and Cap? When I was removing the leaf springs I notices what I would consider a lot of play between the seat and cap and the axle housing. There was virtually no grease at all and I'm wondering if it were greased properly most of the play would go away. I understand why there has to be play, but can there be too much play, and how much is too much? Thanks

Yes, there can be too much play if the spring seat and the axle housing are badly worn. Grease will have no bearing on taking up the play.
Check the axle housing and if it has lots of wear in the area where it pivots back and forth on the spring seat, that should be corrected to take up the excessive play. There should be some play so that the axle housing can move freely, but it should not be excessive.

Dog, I do notice some wear on the axle housing, but I by no means can tell if it is excessive. Maybe a 0.010 to 0.020 inch ridge, but that is a guess. I don't have calipers. The spring seat does easily turn on the housing and there is a distinct play with slight clunking when moved back and forth. If this is excessive, how can it be remedied? The seats seem too thin to machine and sleeve. Any ideas? Thanks
