Here is a 1954 235 water pump: here is a 1955 235 waterpump: The 1954 and 1955 waterpumps are not interchangable notice that the 1955 and later waterpump mounts in a round hole in the newer block.

John, Could it be that your dad's 54 has had a 55 or later engine replacement? If that is the case, in order for it to fit in the 54 chassis with the radiator in the normal 54 position that would require a 55 water pump with a shortened shaft. If that is the case tell him to call The Filling Station. They sell a shortened 55 water pump that requires a 55 fan. They also sell a adapter plate to use a 54 original water pump. The adapter requires that the block be drilled and tapped for the adaptor. The use of the adapter puts the fan in the proper height to use the 54 fan.

yes, that is a good picture MT. I take it that the short shaft is to fit the 53-54 truck or car narrow fan belt? And does it take the 55 and later fan blade? Will this pully give you the same fan speed as the 37-54 pully?
What is the cost shipping included, do you have to have a core, or is there a core charge? I have a 57 235 engine out of of a 57 C6500 I am building up for my 51 Belair, I wish it was a 261. I do want to keep the lifters mechanical. I also have all the starter linkage and the starter off the 57 truck. I bought the C6500 thinking it had a 261, but a PO changed the engine out to a 235, according to all the engine block and head casting and engine numbers, however the starter, carb and distributor is the correct number for a 261, I got a bargain that ain't quite the bargain I thought it was! I could make out with a good 261 short block and drill the steam holes in the 235 head.

These new short shaft water pumps will not fit the 1937-1954 motors. These are designed to fit the 1955-1962 motors only. This pump allows you to fit a later 1955-1962 235 motor in the 1937-1954 cars & trucks without having clearance problems with the fan blade & radiator. No core needed. Uses the later 235 fan blade. 3/8" Pully is designed to move water & turn the fan blade at the same rate as the stock '55-'59 pump. You can get'em here..... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevy-55-...=item414da0824a

yes, I meant to say the short shaft pump is made to use on a 57 to 62 engine in a pre 55 Chevrolet car or truck with a 261 or a 235 engine.
