Hey! Some of you'll are a-cheating on the rules here. Get too many cars on here and somebody is bound to complain. Not me, of course. Just kidding.
Anyhow, I left out my 56 Chevrolet convertible. The only "keeper" I ever bought brand new. It was a beauty and came in a close third. Red and off white (I don't have a clue as to what shade/tent of red & white that was). I bought it at Marine Chevrolet in Jacksonville, NC. I put skirts on it but did not go for the power pack. There was a new 56 red and white (whatever) corvette sitting right next to it. I could have bought it instead. I know, I know.
Steve 6. I had a 47 Pontiac, also. It was slope back 2 door. It was a 6 so I don't think it was a silver streak. The gearshift lever came off. I drove it using the prong to shift. Borrowed my brother-in-law's 55 F**d with Hollywood skirts and very loud mufflers for my first (blind) date with my future wife of now almost 52 years. I was worried what impression I would make with the Pontiac's very short gearshift. I had brought her chocolates, took her to see "Tammy" at an indoor theater and bought her a Coca-Cola, popcorn and a pack of Mary Janes. Spent a ton of dough. Got her back home and at her door, I didn't even get a handshake. She said she had to go in and lie down. Somehow I don't think she was about to swoon, so go figure.
Memories. What were we thinking? Best, Charlie

My first car, a '48 Chevrolet Convertible. An all-original 1932 Pontiac with an Overland V8. A 1957 Oldsmobile Super 88 hdtp with a J-2 engine. Of the more than 60 cars I have owned throughout my lifetime, I had a lot of other favorites but this list has to be limited to 3 so I picked these. Beamer

My first car was a 1940 Chevy business coupe. My dad bought it for when I graduated from high school. No engine, only one piece of wiring from the dome light to the dash, no running boards, a 57 Chevy rear end, no front seat, no paint, etc. Dad said No, but I said yes. I am still driving it today and its in VCCA Preservation Class. To see before and after pictures, go to my website. www.1940chevrolet.comMy second car I wish I still had. It was a 1965 Impala convertible with 396 360 horsepower, dual point distributor, metal flake paint, 4 speed close ratio Muncie, 12 bolt 4:10 posi, chrome rims, cheater slicks, Sun tach, bucket seats, etc. dtm

Okay, you-all. This here, right here, is not about the first or worst car you ever owned but those, on reflection, that you WISH you had managed to KEEP. You know, hold on to. Accordingly, please list something special to you. Something that makes you shake your head when you remember having let it go, for whatever reason.
While your stories of your first car are interesting, that's not what I intended this thread to be about. I'm not bringing up my first: A 39 Dodge with a F**d engine in it. My dad was a mechanic. Let's not go there.
Best wishes, Charlie
Bob Barker: See how easy it is to keep folk in line? You betchum, Red Ryder.
BTW: Offense to any of you is not intended. Really, I could listen to your stories all night long. I enjoy them. But for now let's try to keep to the three best you had. Maybe later we can get to the worst. That would be interesting, also.

Easy question for me. My 69 Vette roadster.
Had it in the seventies, and juiced it up a bit. 350 4spd, Aztec silver with leather tan interior and white top. Crager SS deep dish wheels, Holley 650 double pumper, Accel dual point ignition, and Headman headers.
The car cruised at 80-90 mph all day and got me a lot of girlfriends! Darn, I wish I kept that beauty. However I did sell it to buy my first house.
Oh well, RayG

72 Monte Carlo, leather interior, 402 big block, th400 trani, 12 rear end. It was a special order from California. and it had an 8-track, whoohoo. The car could pull stumps and lay down rubber for a city block. It was my grandfathers.

My favorite and "fastest" car was my 1968 Camaro Z 28. I bought it in 1968 from a wrecking yard in Cleveland, Ohio because it was a strip out and totalled by the insurance company.
I made a list of all I needed .... 302 Z28 engine, 4 spd.trans, hood, wheels and tires, complete interior, and radio. Took the list back to the SAME wrecking yard and bought everything I needed ....in the correct colors, for $800.00. I believe I bought back what was originally taken out, LOL.
In 1970, I sold the Camaro Z for $2200.00 so I could make a down payment on a house for my wife and 3 kids.
Now, 40 years later, I still wake up at night screaming.
Bob
