What is the Group number and part number for the strap or wire used to ground the distributor to the block.

I can't identify it in my parts book. Seems that it should be configured similar to the battery ground, only a smaller version. And, I would believe, a closed or open eye on each end.

I know that most anything will work but I'd like to get as original as I can. A great help would be a picture of an original one.

I'm using a piece of red, plastic coated wire right now and it is eye catching and ugly.

Thanks, Charlie

The distributor in my truck was not specially grounded. In fact, the braker plate was specially insulated from the dist. housing, in order that the polarity reverse system would work.

The distributor is grounded to the block when installed.

Are you talking about the wire from the distributor to the coil?

On a car with a reversing switch the distributor plate is not grounded to the distributor housing/engine. It is grounded through the factory wireing harness and the reversing switch. If the switch is removed it was standard practice to run a wire from the ground terminal (used on reverse switch distributors only) to the nearest ground location on the engine.

Thanks, everyone. I think I got it.

Gene, I guess, having a correct tag numbered 41 distributor, one could use the reverse polarity switch (RPS) for this purpose only and not energize (read: have working) the rest of the RPS wiring harness. That way whoever looks in down there wouldn't realize that you didn't have a working RPS owing to the absence of a distributor ground to side pan. Have I got this right?

Charlie

BTW: This would be another point off if discovered or if the distributor was found to be grounded to the side pan via a wire. See if I ever become a judge, I would check each terminal of the RPS to see that it produced a hot terminal every other the starter was engaged. Pickey? You betchum, Red Ryder!
