I have a 26 1/2 ton with fuel tank under seat. I have nothing to go by, but need to make a seat. What type of springs where used, and how was this configured? any one have pictures? What type of upholstery?

The seat springs and support will depend on which company built the cab. Chevrolet did not have a commercial body division until late 1930 so contracted with body companies to supply truck cabs and bodies prior to that date. In addition a customer or dealer could order a commercial chassis and then arrange for a body. And then there was a commercial vehicle book at most dealers that had many bodies and other equipment that was offered through Chevrolet dealers.

Pictures of the cab might help us to determine the correct configuration.

My 28 1 ton has two sets of lower seat springs which made the gas tank easier to get to. My 23 Olds 1 ton truck with a wooden cab and has one set of lower springs and can be a pain to fill up. on the other hand I think Dads 21 490 with the seat tank has one set of lower springs as well but it has been a long time since I saw that car.It is kind of buried in the back of the garage.

Hi Bob,
I then under stand it would be 2 seperate seats. Did they have a wood botton and use a coil on coil system. I have nothing to go by. It was all gone when I got the truck.
Thanks
John

My truck just has one of the original seat bottoms. The original owner must have been a pretty big ranch boy ( I picture someone the size of "Hoss" from Bonanza driving it in the day)as it is pretty well flattened and the other side seat bottom looks like the seat back off some kind of touring car rear jump seat. The springs are held up by steel trusses where they go over the tank and were squished flat enough to scratch the top of the tank some. There is no wood frame on my seat bottom springs. They are all steel and thank the good lord there aren't rusty at all so I have good patterns to get new ones made someday.
