I am looking at a low mileage 1 owner Caprice 4 dr hdtp. The engine is a 327 and it has a 2 barrel carberator! The orignal owner says that is the way it came from the dealer and that there has never been anything done to the car except maintenance. I was told that GM had a fire in the carberator plant in 66, and that there are some unusual combinations.I cannot find the 327/2 barrel combination in any of the 66 literature. Is this combination possible?

In my Canadian book-it only lists 4bbl for 66 Chev 327. Could be different on US vehicles.

I checked 3 other books-none list a '66 Chev 327 with a 2bbl.

I'm not saying it's impossible though.

Mel,
simply check the numbers on the r.h. front engine pad of the block.
The 283 was the B-car 2bbl.The 327's were all 4bbl in '66.
I've never heard of the carb plant fire either.Nor have I seen/read any accounts of this. Jim

Thats a funny story... pigs
The standard engine for a 1966 Caprice was a 283 with a 2 Bbl.
The 327 had a 4 barrel and could have a Rochester, Carter, or Holley carburetor.
If the car is all original and came with a 327 there willl be a 327 "numbers" above the crossed flags on the side of the front fenders front area - front of wheel opening.
Its possible that the 4 barrel carb. and intake manifold has been replaced with a 2 Bbl and intake and air cleaner from a 283.....or..?
