I have a six cylinder Chevy engine which I believe came out of a 1954 Chevrolet. Can anyone confirm this to be true, according to the serial numbers on the engine? (LAQ562I29)



If not, can you tell me what year it is from?

L = 1953
A = passenger car engine
Q = Power Glide engine made in Tonawanda, N.Y.

The 1953 PG block is ALMOST the same as a 1954 except it has smaller camshaft journals (in the block). The 1954 has larger journals as they were necessary so the larger cam lobes would fit thru the journal openings.
The 1954 head has the rocker arm cover attached with 4 screws on the outter edges, the 1953 had the 2 studs coming up thru the center.
