The 1953 PG block is ALMOST the same as a 1954 except it has smaller camshaft journals (in the block). The 1954 has larger journals as they were necessary so the larger cam lobes would fit thru the journal openings.
The 1954 head has the rocker arm cover attached with 4 screws on the outter edges, the 1953 had the 2 studs coming up thru the center.
