I recently acquired a 1936 Chevy and I need some help figuring out my generator and cut-out configuration. I purchased a replacement cut-out for it and I am trying to figure out if the original cut-out was mounted on top of the generator or was it mounted on the firewall. Mine is mounted on the firewall. I have only been able to find limited information and a couple of photos of the engine compartment on the internet. The problem is I don't know if the photos I found show the original set up or a modification. I would also like to see if I have the original generator in my car. Does anyone have the original number for the generator that was installed in this car? I would like to get my car back to original as much as possible. Thanks!

The original cut-out was installed on top of the generator, not on the firewall. Is the item installed on the firewall actually a cut-out or is it a voltage regulator? If it is a voltage regulator then your generating system has been converted.
What is the model number that is stamped on the Delco-Remy tag that is on your generator?
It is a cut out. It has two terminals with GEN and BAT stamped on them. I believe that somewhere along the line the previous owner of the car moved the cut-out to the firewall. I read on one of the web-sites that the proper generator for my car is 60U. I will try and get the number off the generator and post it later. Thanks!
