I am putting a 1930 basket case back together and I am having trouble with the rocker arm oiling system. I have the line coming up from the oil distributor and the 2 hollow rocker arm shafts. I don't have or can't identify the parts that fit in between the rocker shafts. These would be the pieces that the oil line would connect to so the oil will get to the inside of the shafts. I have a parts book and it looks like there should be 2 cylindrical pieces, a spring and a fitting.
Can anyone help with a better description of these parts and/or a picture of the parts in place.

Dads 31,
Thank you. I think that is the part I am looking for. I'm guessing that the tube coming out of it goes into the return tube through the head to take the excess oil back to the crankcase. Can you tell me how it fastens to the ends of the rocker shafts? It looks like it might be held in place with the spring that is shown in the parts book. I don't think that I have one of those in my piles of stuff but I'll have to check again to be sure.

The part shown is one of three parts between the rocker shafts. The necked down end fits into the end of one of the shafts, another part surrounded by a spring fits into it. That part has a ridge near one end to hold the spring and also fit into the opposite shaft. The spring permits installing the parts between the shafts and keeps it in place.

Once the oil line from the distributor valve is attached then oil will flow to the hollow center of each shaft and lubricate the rockers. The shafts are kept filled with oil because of the end caps on each shaft and the slight upward slant of the exit passageway. That also regulates the pressure on the shaft. It was common for people to pinch off the exit tube in an attempt to increase the amount of oil to the number 1 and 6 valve rockers. It is far better to replace the bushings and shafts.

Chipper,
Thank you for the great description. That's pretty much how I had figured it would work. I haven't found anything like that in my pile of parts yet. I am going to check a couple of other sources and if that doesn't work I'll probably post a parts wanted request on the for sale forum.

1927 coach, If you send me a PM with your email address I can send you some pictures of my rocker arms from my 31. I think that they are the same.
