Does anyone make a reproduction of the roof molding for a 1930 2 door Coach? If not, What is being used?
Mine was the original 3 piece set. One for the front roof crown and one on each side that meet in the middle at the rear.
Even though I was careful removing them I don't think they will seal well enough for replacement.
Any information would be helpful.
Thanks

Beautiful reproductions of the 1930 roof crown mouldings were made for many years.....up until a few years ago. Now, they are no longer available.

If your mouldings are in good shape, I would suggest that you restore your mouldings and reuse them if you want to keep your car original.

I looked around for one like the original aluminum fold-over last year to no avail. I ordered a new fabric top from the Filling Station, and it comes with fabric, pad underlay, and a roll of black vinyl moulding which should look pretty close when installed. I have seen it on several cars and looks good
There is a separate molding piece for the front roof edge, and the coil of molding to do rest in one piece if desired. The molding is a fold-over type, much like the original, allowing use of brads and then fold over to hide them. The moulding has some wire mesh imbedded in it to allow it to retain its shape when folded over.

Are you referring to the fold over "hidem strip" that is made out of cloth material instead of extruded aluminum? If so, that is a common item used on convertible tops, boat tops and etc. It would look good but it is not the same as the original roof crown moulding, and, if the car is judged, points would be deducted for its use.

Thank you for the responses.I did see in The Filling Station the "roof kit". I was not sure what the replacement vinyl trim molding would look like. I may try to use the original molding if I can pry open the top to remove the old nails without distorting the aluminum too much.
Thanks for the information

Do not try to pry the roof crown moulding open....you will ruin it!

There is a better way to reuse the roof crown moulding if it is in restorable condition. First, cut off all of the nail shanks from the underside of the moulding. Then drill small countersunk holes on the top of the moulding that are evenly spaced. Using flat head wood screws, attach the moulding into place and then fill the holes with either lead or body putty and contour the filler to the curvature of the roof crown moulding. Paint the moulding and you are done.

Of course, you will want to do this after the new roof insert is in place. You can also use a little bit of sealer between the roof crown moulding and the roof insert as well.

Thank you sir for your information. That does sound like a much better way to reuse the original crown molding.

Absolutely! And, that way you won't ruin the original moulding.

Greg,
View your profile and read the comment left in the "Visitor's Comment" about your roof molding by 31Sal. He will be of great help if you contact him. He was to me when getting some of my stuff together on my '31.

I think that you have to be a member of the VCCA to gain access to his profile.
