Although it seems to be working fine, I'm concerned the fuel pump will last since it sat unused for 18 years. I don't see where I can get a replacement or rebuild kit for that year pump. I have a 181 c.i. engine. I would greatly appreciate any help!!

I am a little confused. Is this car a 1933 or a 1934? The 1934 fuel pump (if original type) has no glass bowl and the mounting bolts are straight across from each other. The 1933 has one bolt lower than the other. The 1935 and 1936 have a glass bowl but they will fit a 1934.
The Filling Station sells rebuild kits. The kit covers 1934-1936 but if you have a "real" 1934 pump only the diaphragm can be used......which should be no problem.

Thanks for the replies and info. The pump, I think, is original with metal bowl and two bolts at the 3 & 9 o'clock positions or "straight across" from each other. It has 429AX stamped on one side of the body flange & 048 on the other side. Are you are saying I only need to replace the diaphragm and I would be OK?

The diaphragm will be the only parts you can use on the pump if you get the complete repair kit. The kits comes with valves, etc which you can not use. No problem as the old ones should be OK.

Confusion; The AC number of the 1934 pump was 417. The 429 was the pump for 1937-1951. I am wondering what this is all about. The 429 did have a glass bowl on top of the pump. I wonder what the "internals" of your really are. Will the diaphragm be a "bolt in" like a 1934 or stamped retainer like a 429.

Actually all I want is a backup plan if the pump quits working. I just got back from Jim Carter's Chevy Truck supply and brought home a new diaphragm plus a complete fuel pump. I think the new pump will work and looks exactly like the original (all metal). I am going to pull off the old one and compare the two. Then I'll decide on whether to keep the new pump and/or the new diaphragm. I also bought a new sending unit for the new gas tank. The old one probably would work but I figured now would be the time to install a new one.

I doubt very much if Carter would have a 1934 only fuel pump. I would bet the pump is a modern all metal pump for a 216-235 engine. Same for the diaphragram. Check the length and angle of the arm amoung other things.

The replacement fuel pump I bought from Jim Carter's was almost exactly like the one on the car with the same numbers stamped on it except that the bottom of the flange where it bolts to the engine was a bit longer than mine. I had to saw off about 3/16" so it would not hit the part of the block that bends outward. Other than that it was the same pump. So I will take the new diaphragm back for a refund and keep the old pump for a backup. Thanks for all the replies, suggestions, etc.!!!

Can someone please tell me if I need to put some type of sealant on the fuel pump gaskets and diaphram? Just bought the kit and never did this before. Its for our 1929.

Thanks
