title matching engine number

larryp Grease Monkey Registered: 01/26/10 Posts: 2 Loc: tennessee	Hello I'm new to this so please bear with me. I bought a 1955 chevy 4 dr. When i looked at the vin number on the title it does not match the vin on the A pillar but does match the engine number. Is this the way it is ? Or is the A pillar and the engine number the same number. Any help would be great . Thanks. Larry

Chev Nut Registered: 01/08/02 Posts: 14894 Loc: West Allis,Wi.	The serial number and the engine number are two different numbers. Prior to 1955 most states used the engine number for registration. Your just lucky the number on the title and the engine number match. Many cars have had the engines replaced and then the fun begins. _________________________ Chevgene
