Could anyone tell me the year of an engine with the following identification numbers?
The numbers on the block beside the distributor are 0566130, F255X, CON 3, C145
The number on the bell housing is 370283
The numbers on the head are 8885913, BM 16
The number on the flywheel is 3705410

I think that the engine came out of a 55, 56 or 57 chevrolet truck but I am not sure.

I am new to this "on line chat" and enjoy reading the questions and responses. I am impressed with the wealth of knowledge that you guys all have about vintage Chevrolets.

I have a 1937 Master Deluxe Business Coupe.

Thank you for the responses!

There is a website out there called Stovebolt Sixes, or something to that effect. Someone has compiled a listing for head, block, and trannies if I rememeber correctly. I am sure if you google it you will find it.

A 3835913 head would be from a 1955 235 car or truck
A 3705410 flywheel was used on various models from 1954-1962 If it is from a 6 volt 1954 it would have a different number of teeth on the ring gear than the 1955 12 V
As best as I can tell from the engine numbers you posted the block is from a 1955 1/2, 3/4, or 1 ton truck. This is like a 99% sure factor.

I know that this engine has the high pressure oil system and insert rods bearings. Is there any way of knowing if this engine has hydraulic lifters. If not, can I install hydraulic lifters without changing the camshaft and/or pushrods?

Thanks

If it is a truck engine it will have solid lifters. If it would have came out of a 1955 stick car it would have solid lifters.
The 1955 235 can not be converted to hyd. lifters if originally made for solids.

The later blocks can be equipped with solid or hydraulics.
If the engine has an oil line in the push rod compartment it cannot be converted. The oil line will cpnnect to a fitting in the lower rear corner and the line will connect to another fitting in the center top of the compartment.
The engines that could run either lifter had no line and the oil was fed to a passage that ran from lifter to lifter and went up to the rocker arms inside the block - in a passage. The oil was fed from the front and rear cam bearing .
