Goedendag,

I don't have time to formulate a reply to Maarten but suggest that anyone can write a reply in English and then go to Translate Google or paste "translate.googlecm" into your browser address and convert it into Dutch. (There are several other free translation services on the internet.) Then you can email it to Maarten.

We have around six VCCA members from the Netherlands who might be able/willing to translate for this guy and his needs.

Is it possible to search for those on the chat to find their email adresses?

Here is the translation for the above request...

Good day

I am Martin Dirksen from the Netherlands and saw your site on the internet.
It's like this, I have a Chevrolet that has been in storage for 16 years[from Belgium] and want to restore it.
The problem is that I have no papers for the car.
The body is from Fisher job Number 32551 Body number J 15776 Trim number 16 Paint number 113 motor number 3284894.
Would you be able to find out what the chassis number should be? And the type?
I am really curious to know if there is someone there who could answer me in Dutch.
Thanks in advance, Maarten Dirksen

I don't speak dutch as a friend of mine did the translation for me. If anyone can take it from here I'm sure it would be greatly appreciated

My Dutch is a little rusty but I can manage. Does anyone have the answer to his questions? With the numbers he has given, what year and model does he have, assuming he has a Chev? I'd be happy to send him the requested information.

Job Number 32551: 1932 Coach

Body Number J 15776: Vehicle built in Janesville and it was the 15,776th Coach built in that factory in 1932.

Trim Number 16: Gray mohair with pattern.

Paint Number 113: Bordeaux Maroon with either Black or St. Germain Red wheels. The pin striping was Gold Bronze and St. Germain Red.

Engine serial number 3284894: Engine was made between June and July of 1932.

A close guess of the car serial number might be made using the date codes on the engine block and cylinder head, the engine serial number along with the month the vehicle was made in the Janesville factory based on the body number.

Is this a great country (I mean club) or what? I mean, where else in the world can a guy find a car sitting in storage 16 years, made half way around the world 77 years ago write a note in a language I can't read or write find the answers to a the questions he needs to restore the car from the most knowledgeable group on the planet. I thought I had it tough trying to restore a complete drivable car I found around the block. WHAT A CLUB!!!

There are a bunch of dedicated people in the VCCA that are dedicated to help preserve Chevrolet history.

I've received a reply back from Maarten Dirksen

Which translates to:
Thank you for your reply, and in dutch too.

Nice to know where and when this car is built, but I have one more question - is motor number the chassis number with Chevrolets.

I need the chassis number for government inspection and registration.
With friendly greetings - Maarten Dirksen

I think he needs to look for the VIN. Right? Where should he look for the VIN?

It is not a VIN (which is a mandated number letter sequence) but a car number or serial number. Regardless the plate should be nailed to the main sill (floor) near the passenger side door post and battery access plate. Another way to describe the location is near the right heal of the passenger when sitting in the seat. The number should have the assembly plant id followed by BA (model designation) a digit or two for the month and then a sequential number beginning with 1001 for each production plant. However most of those vehicles were titled in the US using the engine number and not the car number.

Arend, from previous post here , 1931 and 1932 chevrolet chassis were not stamped with a serial number.

To be even more specific, the 1932 frames were not stamped with the serial number. The serial number only appeared on the plate that Chipper describes above and the serial number plate was nailed to the wood with small brads, and in many cases today the serial number plates are missing.
