I dropped off my grille trim and center bar along with some smaller parts at a local plating shop to be re-chromed. They are unable to do the grille itself. I wasn't sure I wanted it chromed anyway.

So I am wondering what some of you might have done on yours or what suggestions you might have. I looked at a car recently that had the trim chromed and the grille powder coated in a silver color that looked really good even though not exactly correct.

The term "local plating shop" scares the heck out of me! One good move in the old car hobby is to never take your valuable parts to a local plating shop. Many are irresponsible while others don't do quality work and some are just not qualified to do the job at all. Many also either ruin the part or lose the part as well. It is always a good idea to send your parts to professional plating shops that come highly recommended and that specialize in plating for collector cars.

The shop is well known in the Kansas City area as doing great work. They come highly recommended by a large number of folks doing both restoration and custom work. The name of the company is Performance Plating in Olathe, Kansas. It is a third generation family run business since the 1940's. Their website is www.performanceplating.com. for some reason these type of grill and stone guards are hard to chrome i have had some chromed and they come back looking like a galvanized fence . i brought them back and not much better . they can be done and i have seen it . you may want to replace it with a stainless grill they are close and a judge with a good eye can tell. ithink the filling station has them . hope this helps

Performance Plating is not what I would consider to be a "local" plating shop. Ya, I know, they are local to you but they are also nationally known and they specialize in custom work and they have quality plating. When dudes mention "local" plating shop we assume that they are talking about the unknown, run-of-the-mill production shop down the street that either loses or ruins parts rather then a nationally known custom shop that has a good reputation with their service.

Glad to hear that you have one of the "good guys" to do your plating.
