Hi,

A few months back I was refurbishing the panels that go alongside and to the rear of the seat in my 38 coupe (triangularly shaped, something like a wing). These have a vinyl-like material covering the metal. My materials are from Hampton Coach. They're pinched in on one side, folded over and stretched to the other side. Instructions say to use an adhesive to fasten them to the other side. When I did the job originally, I researched various adhesives and took a hardware store recommendation on using what is supposed to be a top of the line spray adhesive. This worked well--for a few months. Luckily these have not yet been reinstalled in the car, but simply sitting in my climate controlled basement shop. Now I notice that the vinyl is lifting and loosening from the metal panel that it covered on both pieces.

Last night I cleaned off the old adhesive with some reducer and obviously would like to re-glue. I'm thinking this time of using good old contact cement. Do others of you have experience with this and a better suggestion?

Thanks!

Jim

Contact cement should work very well.

Be careful with contact cement inside the home. Some of the fumes from contact cement are easily ignited.

I have used 3M general trim adhesive with excellent results. It is a contact type product in aerosol can.

I would have to agree with Chipper , 3M also make's a vinyl roof adhesive for car roof's that work's excellent, it is also great to use on running board's when installing the rubber, or vinyl interior parts.
Make sure to mask off area's where you don't need it, it's not easy to clean off, so think ahead before useing this stuff.
The end result is great with lasting results.
Contact cement is all right but will not last as long as the 3M adhesive.
