Can anyone tell me, or point me in the right direction, on how to replace the windlace around the doors on a 37 4dr master deluxe? I have looked through the search part here, but came up with nothing. Any body have any Ideas? Thanks,

I would say it will be necessary top lift the edges of the trim around the doors to expose the tacking strips that the windlace is nailed into.

Gene is exactly right. In August my car got a complete interior. I removed everything from the interior and started from scratch. There is some kind of a fibre material that is in the edges of the door frames and along the ceiling of the car. This is used to hold the tacks. We used an air nailer and that went much quicker. A previous owner had purchased a Hampden interior kit but did a crummy job of installing it. Fortunatly, he did not cause any damage. I found a guy that would allow me to assist and we worked on the interior about 4 hours a day for 5 days. This included the rebuilding of the springs on the front seat. All in all, it came out just fine.

I would say that you should remove the front seat before you do this and access will be much better. I have a 4-door and it would have been very difficuilt with the seat in place and not possible to use the air nailer at all. For a complete install, you will also need to remove the side kick panels in the front and the edges of the head liner as well as the trim panels on the door post. The install of the wind lacing is easy, it is all of the other things that will take some time.

Good luck,

Rich

Thanks, Gene & Rich, for the info on the windlace. My whole Interior needs replacing, but that will have to wait. Do they make a replacement material, for the old mohair, that wont pick as much?? The wife made that request! Thanks,

The newer mohair has a softer nap, probably because it made from a synthetic rather than wool. It also crushes easier when you sit on it.
