Hi, my 38 2dr is in need of paint, the only info l can find said that the cars could have a 2 tone body and another colour on the fenders, but I have not seen pics of or seen what colours went with what.
Also where exactly was the pin strip?.
My car is dark green now, originally light green which I may use or maroon. thanks

1938 cars were available in solid colors only. The pin stripe was on the raised body belt moulding and the color of the stripe was determined by the color of the car. The maroon in 1938 was very dark and not metallic.
US cars were available in two differnt greens, a medium light and a medium dark green, Canadian colors may have been different. The US cars had a plate on the firewall with the body number, paint number , and the rim numbe, Another plate had the serial number. I believe in Canada there was one large plate with all the numbers.

patriot There are two raised belt mouldings. I believe the pin stripe goes on the upper one per an earlier posting by Chev Nut. Also, doesn't it terminate at the front of the car in some type of a one-sided arrowhead? Beamer

GM Canada cars used different colors than in the US though most are pretty similar and others look identical. The Canadian models do have the paint code on the firewall tag but I have yet to find a source matching this code to an actual color. GM Canada claims to no longer have this information.

I do have the 1938 GM Canada color chips. They have color names but no codes. They are similar to the 1938 US Chev colors of which the paint mixing formulas are easily available. It appears that GM Canada used the same colors across all the different brands - Chevy, Pontiac, Buick and Olds.

What I'd like is pics, anyone know where or have pictures of 38 Chevs with 2 tone or 3 tone original type paint jobs.

If you look back at your first post, my reply is just after it and I mentioned that CHEVROLET DID NOT OFFER TWO TONE PAINT COMBINATIONS IN 1938.
