I have been trying to look "Upskirt" I am trying to figure out if these are Homemade, Genuine Chev, or Poor Knockoffs. They don't fit for a darn.

These things came in the trunk when I bought the car, so I really can't complain, or expect too much. None, the less, I wish they better.

I saw Skirts like these several years ago on a Resto Rod. I can only guess the maker did not want them to fall off by screwing them to the fender ! I would not give them away. A Resto Rod person may find them very attractive for their needs. Look like what I call eBay bait !! There are nice reproduction "wheel shields" available from several of hte vendors.

So, how did real skirts stay affixed to the car? I guess I just assumed they all bolted up.

The Chevrolet skirts were secured by a large lever and hooks that locked into the wheel opening flange. They were easy to remove and replace and were never bolted on.

I have NORS stainless gravel shields on the 48 and the skirts fit is interfered by them...I have decided to remove the shields, weld the the holes and repaint...I don't feel the look of the Fleetline is not enhanced by the skirts and if your rubber is not placed well they will scratch the HE!! out of your paint...I do prefer the skirts over the stainless shields though

Hi,
That seems to be the problem with some of the NORS parts that are currently avaliable' They just don't fit. On my 46 Fleetline I did go to the expense and purchased a set of original dlx gravel guards and had them restored $$$ and they fit like a champ along with the original skirts'
Here are some pics.
Good luck'

Yes Gene it is.
I purchased out here in California about 8yrs ago from a broker
who pulled out of Ohio where it was stored from 1953 to 1999
and then I got it in 2000-2001 ? It has 40k original miles.
Really a fun car to drive.

That is one nice original car and the dealer really loaded it up with accessories. Nice to see just how dark the 1940-1946 maroon was. Today most repaint them with a much lighter maroon.

When I stated my life at the dealership in 1950 most 1946 maroon cars looked just like that. The first thing we would do is send it to the body shop for a paint job.

Extremely NICE!! See it has a ton of accesories as well, including Banjo wheel, pipe holder, umbrella holder, compass, cats eye lighter, tissue dispenser, et al. Was all this equip on car when you got it?? I see there is a small chrome item just ahead of left vent wing handle, what might that be???

Thanks.

Jim.

Thanks Gene and Jim
When I aquired the 46 it came with skirts, ventshades, rear blind, bumper tips, over flow tank,pb radio, dlx steering wheel, electric clock, day night mirror, turn signals, I have since added the rest.
Gene you will love this tale, when the family of the doctor who purchased it new put it into storage in 1953 they had someone put it up on blocks the entire car has factory under coat, the trunk has original mat and trunk boards. They then filled the gas tank and radiator with some type of fluid and then covered the entire car with some petroleum base liquid.
In 1999 when it was removed from its resting place a not so smart individual could not remove the oily substance with just water and soap'so guess what? They poured solvent over the car and killed the paint''''
But the rest of the car is in pretty good shape'

Lighter and clock were standard equipment.

There is no substitute for an original low milage car.

As they say, "they're only original once!" Too bad about the paint story.
Still, a dang nice car. And that list of accessories is very impressive!
Congrats to you Mike....

What a fantastic "time machine". Beautiful......and a great story. You should do an article for the G&D.

Thanks for sharing.

I have the pics ready to post showing the back of the skirt. Now I can't find my directions for how to post on the discussion thread. Any help is appreciated.
