Installation of jute pad and floor mat

If my memory serves me, I bought the jute pad from Chevs of the 40s and the floor mat from Brothers. The floor mat was very expensive... the jute pad (pre-cut...mostly) was not bad at around $17.
I had to do a lot of modification to both, but not as much to the jute pad as the mat. The mat had no accommodation for the "step-on" floor starter switch or the hydraulic lever (Chevy 4400). The accommodation for the emergency brake was poor and the holes for all the pedals had to be modified.
But it looks a whole lot nicer than it did. But the jute pad + mat doesn't do much for dampening the engine and road noise. Most of the noise must come through the firewall... if not, then it's just noisy. It's hard to hear the radio as it is. I haven't yet installed the firewall pad. That is next. It requires taking everything off the firewall..... I'm not really looking forward to that!

Today, I put up some carpet backing on the firewall. It is noticably quieter in the cab. I'll take it out for a test drive this night. I don't know if it will be quiet enough for me to hear the radio or not. We'll see. Also, I don't know if I will have time to get to the real firewall pad for the next 3 weeks or month or not.

Just the foam carpet backing material on the firewall makes a huge difference in the noise level in the cab.
I have to get the real firewall mat installed as soon as I can.
