Hi all,
What brand of coolant would I be best off using in my 1932 Chevy? If possible name a few different brands so that I might be able to find one of them here in Malta. Has anyone ever used Caterpillar coolant in a Chevrolet? I used to use it on heavy equipment and found it very effective, but I'm not sure if ity is OK for my Chevy. I would be grateful for any opinions. Thanks.
Glen

I don't know if it gets below freezing on Malta so don't know if antifreeze is important. If not then distilled or deionized water with a coolant corrosion additive would be the best. Caterpillar and other heavy equipment companies have coolant additives that will work well. They can be used to provide corrosion protection.

I have been using Chevron Delo extended life coolant for about 8 years. It is a long life ethylene glycol based product that meets the CAT EC-1 spec. and is the same red color. While it is aimed at the heavy duty diesel market I have had no problems with it.Just be sure to flush the system prior to filling and check all the hose connections to be sure they are in good condition.

Higuys,
Thanks for your thoughts and kind words. It never gets below freezing here in Malta, so antifreeze isn't really needed. I think I will use Caterpillar coolant in it this time, as I think it should do the job quite well. Thanks again.

Hi Glen,
would be intersting to know how your car found the way to malta! I know just something about old buses still in use in malta, but is your chevy there for long time or did you bring it there in today times?
My Chevy was built in South africa and the previous owner here in germany did buy it there and transfer to germany in 2004. Sadly I could not find out anything about the cars history in africa. When removing the inner panels I did just find lot of desert sand and a skeleton of a mouse...and did find the mouses nest just inside the rear seat...

for me the history of an old car is always very interesting.
