transmission casting numbers

I have a buddy who is looking for a shift lever assembly but is not sure just what transmission he has.
On the side of the transmission is: GM465452.
On the top is: GM18, and below that is: 3901131.
I would appreciate any help in identifying this transmission or finding out where I can get this information.
