In 31, what color was the air filter painted, grey or black? Also, I've read that the frame should be painted a semi-gloss black. Should semi-gloss be used on most of the other black parts (i.e. pedal assemblies, shift lever, steering shaft tube, etc.)??? It's very hard to tell on my sedan since the paint is virtually gone.
Thanks
Ralph

The air cleaner is painted black.

On the semi-gloss terminology, that is kinda sorta a misnomer. Back in 1931 the parts painted black were either dipped in or sprayed with black Japan enamel. The finish of black Japan enamel is glossy, but not a high gloss as it would look cut and buffed. Today, some dudes refer to that as a semi-gloss finish. Since actual semi-gloss paint does have a different type of appearance than the old black Japan enamel, I like to relate that the finish is a dull gloss and not a high gloss with a deep reflection.

Things like the brake and clutch pedals, the mast jacket, frame, axles, springs, brake shafts and etc. were all painted black.
