Hi all,

We found a nice stock '64 Impala SS for my wife to enjoy the hobby with. Pictures of our new baby are here: www.59apache.com/64impala.pdf.

The car is mostly finished, but I need a few things for it to make it "just so". So, I have some questions before I launch my next parts hunt.

1) Are the '64 bumper jacks for Chevelles and Novas the same jack used in the Impala, Bel Air and Biscayne’s?

2) Does anyone have a picture of what the spare tire mount looks like for the '64 Impala that they can post here or e-mail to me?

3) Where was the spare tire and jack mounted in the trunk on the '64 Impala?

4) Where in the trunk should the jack instructions label be affixed?

I am sure I will have plenty more questions to ask. Thanks to everyone for their help. If all goes as planned, we hope to drive this car from our home here in SoCal to Flint in 2011!

That is a beautiful '64 Jim. The spare tire is mounted on the left side of the shelf, below the rear window. You should find a loop on the floor for a hold down. It is a threaded rod with a hook on the end that would go through the loop and the threaded rod would extend up through the center of the wheel and the jack base would go on top of the wheel. A large wing nut would hold all of this down.I found a bumper jack on ebay for my '63. I will attach a picture. I am not saying this is absolutley correct, but it is close

Note that the same basic jsck was used from 1959 through 1964 for conventional cars - but the bumper hook was different for each year. The hook clipped onto the jack and was shapped to fit the curve of the bumper so was different for each year.
There were several versions of the jack but the hook would fit all jacks,
I assume you have a hardtop and not a convertible. The location of the spare would be different for the convertible.

Cleon,

Thanks for posting the picture. I really appreciate it. Now it all makes sense to me. We are having fun with the car. We just got back from our Region meeting tonight, we have four '53 Impala Superports in the Reion and One '65, but no '54's --- that is until now! :-) So, that gap in the line up just got filled!

Thanks again for posting the pic.

Gene,

Thanks so much for your response. You have helpped me so much with questions on my pickup! The care is a hardtop and so now I know to mostly pay attention to the hook. The best part is, I think we now have the right car to drive to Flint in 2011! vcca

Thanks again!
