Hello everybody,
I keep getting closer with the old 30 ton-an-a-haff. We actually got fire to shoot out the carburator last weekend-what way to end the summer.
My question to you guys is I had a guy rebuild the lock on the electolock but the wiring has a short in it. How do I remove the end piece to replace the wire. I have all the lock guts out but don't see an easy way to disassemble the rest of it. Any help would be appreciated.
Just to let you know, I ordered a part from Bruce Bugay that should help take care of the backfiring and not set my pant leg on fire.
Thanks again for your help.

To remove the wire from the electrolock cable you have to "unshrink" the ring that holds the lock cylinder housing to the cable. This is done after the lock cylinder assembly and plunger are removed. You also have to remove the terminal stud, the spring and brush wire on the opposite end, and then unsolder the wire terminal from the wire on the terminal stud end. The wire is removed from the lock cylinder end. Then unsolder the wire from the Bakelite terminal block. If you don't know what you are doing...then be very careful!

Good luck! \:D \:D \:D

Thanks for the help, JunkYardDogJunkYardDog.
I've got all those things out of the terminal end.
One question-how do you "unshrink" the ring? Do you heat it? or freeze it? I was thinking about cutting the cable close to the terminal end and splicing the new wire on to the terminal end then putting the cable shield back on and splice the two pieces back together behind the dash.
What do you think-would that work?

If you are even considering doing such a thing, you need to send your electrolock to a professional and have it done correctly instead of trying to do it yourself.

JunkYardDogJunkYardDog, and where on earth would someone find a "Pro" to do a nice restoration on a Electrolock, an old Delco starter or generator. Could it be the old mutt in Eagle Point? Ha! I have heard he is the BEST!

What would a rebuild cost about?

send the electrolock to the JunkYardDogJunkYardDog. rebuild fee way less than you'll pay for a used functional electrolock, if you are able to find one. our 29 and 31 chevys have Mutt-repaired electrolocks and they function perfectly. mike

My advice, have JunkYardDogJunkYardDog rebuild it...he did mine, as well as my starter, generator, guages, and carb...I could not have been happier.

Hey Ole Mutt,
I tried calling your number there and they said it ain't workin'.
Better pay the phone man with something other than dog biscuits. I tried it several times with no luck. My dialing finger could be busted too. i sent you an email too.
Talk to you soon-I hope.
