The '29 Phaeton I recently bought has wood wheels. The hub caps are unusual. Instead of the normal 3-1/2" diameter screw-on caps with the bow tie logo, it has 3" diameter caps.

The caps have the same design as the 1930 caps (the word "CHEVROLET" is not inside the bowtie), but the diameter is one-half inch less than normal, and the corners are sharp, not rounded like the normal caps. The bowtie is correct -- not just the straight bar you see on most aftermarket caps.

Has anyone seen this before? Does this have something to do with the wood wheels? Are they OEM or aftermarket caps?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

All the Best, Chip

Is the car built in Canada or for export? Did not know of separate caps on US built '29s. '29 Part books show only one cap for disc and wood wheels.

It's an export car. It was in Belize (British Honduras) for many years, and I think it may have been assembled either in England or in Uruguay. It's Right-Hand Drive, but is otherwise nearly identical to my '30 phaeton. The only "wierd" things seem to be the hub caps and the fact that it has had shocks (snubbers with strap connections to the axle) added at some point.

The hub caps are definitely not the standard ones. driving

Anybody else have any ideas? Skip? Ray?
