Any pointers on how to clean and restore the copper mesh filter material in a 1932 air cleaner? This filter element does not appear to be removable from the housing. I have seen pictures of cars on the internet and this is a bright copper color?
Thanks
Jay

I have used copper cleaning pads that we commonly called "chore boy" to replace the original material. If they have soap on them just soak in water to remove it. Bought the last ones at a dollar store. It takes some effort to stuff it into the holes and then disperse it but is worth the effort.

Hey J

I was not going to say it yesterday but since the Chipper as admitted to it, I did the very same thing.

Now for the important question ! How do you deal with the angry wife when her kitchen items come up missing? I could use the answer to this one!

As a teen living at home, my mother would come home to engine parts baking the oven to harden the paint, carbs in the dishwasher, and... well you get the point. when I got married, my wife knew what to expect. If you set the proper expectations, it is not an issue.

Peace offerings also help!

Well, after being involved in a few club events she is now the "driving force" on our restoration project. It may seem a long way from " I don't want all that junk in the yard where the neighbors can see it" to "when are you going to finish the fifty-one"? (Our '32 was completed in 01).
