I am having some problems with the door wood. There is a horizontal piece that goes at the bottom of the window opening. Its held in with two blind screws and fits below the metal lip of the outer door skin. I am about to cut up my new wood just to make it fit. Any advice on installing door wood?

Sometimes tou have to look at it different. The bodies were built as a skeleton & the sheet metal installed last. Now you're trying to do it backwards. Where there was a screw from the outside you can sometime put the screw in from the inside or if it's pre drilled you might have to put a counter sunk anchor nut on the door side & use a machine screw making sure it's not so long that it dimples the door. The other way...the hard way is to skin the door. I don't recommend that. For other ideas call David Entler or Jim Rodman. They've both done complete bodies.....Joe

Who made the wood pieces? If it was one of the professionals then the wood will be correct. Sometimes the metal lips or edges must be bent to allow it to slip over the wood. The advise to contact the wood manufacturers is a good one.

I'm pretty sure the wood for the door was not made as a frame first as was a lot of the body. The metal edge is actually a rigid frame and the wood is used as fasteners.

The screws from the inside on the board below the door window are gotten to once you remove the 2 or 3 screws at each door edge. Some of them are a machine fine thread and screw into the metal lip on the door and if I remember correctly, the main lock. Some are wood screws into the door vertical boards. The screws from the inside, as you mentioned secure the inside door handle and linkage. Flip the board over once you have it out.

The wood kit is from Jim Rodman. The door wood Im having problems with fits just below the window and next to the metal door skin. It fits behind the wood that holds the window and door handle mechanism.
To bend up the door skin I purchased a hand break. It looks like a pair of pliers with 6 inch wide jaws. With it I have been able to bend the outer door skin up and not kink it.
On the leading edge of the door just below the window there are two 10-24 screws that were assembled from the outside prior to Chevrolet putting on the door skin. They screw into a triangular bracket. I just cant see a way to do this like the origional with out taking off the door skin. Which I dont plan to do.

Fullbore,

That's the inner piece below the window. I thought you were talking about the regulator board. I'm sorry for the misunderstanding.

I just checked Rodman's catalog and he doesn't list door wood anywhere in the catalog.

I did not have to replace that piece so I'm guessing here. I checked out a picture of my door without the upholstery and I thought that maybe if you take off the dovetail on the side of the door you may me able to see that joint in the wood. As for the otherside (hinge side) I don't know what to do.

I'm trying to visualize this, but if Jim pre-drilled those holes for the triangle pieces you could install T-nuts on the inner side before putting it in place. Then using a slightly longer screw fit it thru the triangle and thread it into the T-nut. (????)
