I'm pretty sure the wood for the door was not made as a frame first as was a lot of the body. The metal edge is actually a rigid frame and the wood is used as fasteners.
The screws from the inside on the board below the door window are gotten to once you remove the 2 or 3 screws at each door edge. Some of them are a machine fine thread and screw into the metal lip on the door and if I remember correctly, the main lock. Some are wood screws into the door vertical boards. The screws from the inside, as you mentioned secure the inside door handle and linkage. Flip the board over once you have it out.

Fullbore,
That's the inner piece below the window. I thought you were talking about the regulator board. I'm sorry for the misunderstanding.
I just checked Rodman's catalog and he doesn't list door wood anywhere in the catalog.

I did not have to replace that piece so I'm guessing here. I checked out a picture of my door without the upholstery and I thought that maybe if you take off the dovetail on the side of the door you may me able to see that joint in the wood. As for the otherside (hinge side) I don't know what to do.
I'm trying to visualize this, but if Jim pre-drilled those holes for the triangle pieces you could install T-nuts on the inner side before putting it in place. Then using a slightly longer screw fit it thru the triangle and thread it into the T-nut. (????)

Hey thanks takesapart. Only "fullbore" has the problem, not me.
