Wondering what to expect

I would love to have a 29-32 Chevrolet, preferably a 31 or 32. I would like to spend 4-5 thousand to find a completely stock 2 door. Aesthetics is not a real concern, but rather that the wood is in usable shape and it is mechanically sound. I want to drive this car almost daily around town, and I want to keep it completely stock in every way. I wouldn't mind having a car with nice paint or body work and would love to maintain it, but I expect that at this price, that is probably out of the question and I don't mind dents, rust or bad paint. Is this realistic, or would it be unlikely to find a car for this price? I know there's always the rare possibility of being lucky and finding one, but is this a typical price? It seems all the cars I see on the internet and ebay are going for very large prices. I'm only 27, andI will have to sell another car to finance a buy, but I really want to be a part of this era in history.

That's unfortunate. I guess I'll have to wait a few more years. I don't guess it matters that I prefer a 5 passenger to any coupes.

I say drive around. You never know what you will find in a tree row. I always wanted a 31 or 32 and after several years of looking, I found one and the guy sold it to me for $400. Never mnd it is a 4 door, but it is complete. BTW I'm only 29 so us youngins can get a piece of the past if you have patience.

I plan on joining, but I just got laid off so any free money goes to the car. As soon as I can I am joining.
Edit: Ok so I just looked on joining and it ain't to much so I'm going to do it.

vetteman61,
I wouldn't give up yet. Right now, due to the economy, you may be able to strike a deal. A lot of people need cash.
Here in New Jersey, there are a lot of good deals to be found. It appears that folks with over-extended credit are looking to sell off their toys for quick cash.
Hang in there if you can. Good luck with your job search.

Don't wonder any longer! There is no free money. The value of your purchase may more likely be in how informed you are when you actually spend the money. I spent three years before I turned a bolt trying to understand what I was getting involved in. During that time I was not as informed as I thought I was and some of my decisions proved to be worthless with the passage of time. Mistakes or poor decisions have never cost me less than 35.00 per year. I can't begin to value how much my membership has saved me. Consider it a 35.00 contribution to a club that is an invaluable resource that saves you money and you are having fun. For example, last summer I inquired about a 31 older restoration posted in the G&D for around 12k. I really couldn't afford it and fortunately it was already sold when I called. What's more inportant is that it led me to another unrestored and complete 31 special in upstate Vermont that I purchased for $800.00. When you find the right car you may also consider an offer of 35.00 less to renew your membership. I doubt the seller will walk away? If they do, pay it and I will reimberse you for what I consider to be a very good cause or one of the very few mistakes that didn't cost me more that $35.00. Your membership is simply priceless....Good Luck!

You are right on Willow!
Now that just about everything is on the Web, and this Site is a constant source of information, a newbie can't go wrong.
I only wish that VCCA ChatterII was around when I started my restorations back in the 70's and 80's.
Now come to think about it, I can't wait to find another project so I can ask all those Newbie questions right here on Chatter.
Anyone have a 55 for sale, cheap? Your asking price minus $35 bucks of course...!

I should have read the thread more carefully regarding who has a car and who may or may not be a member. Nonetheless, I hope my message is clear to anyone pondering over the cost of membership!

I went to join but I don't have a printer. Is there any online way to do it? I'm not really that computer savy I just know how to post and basic searching.

What is G&D??
I found a 31 on Craigslist that's perfect.... The lady said she was going to take other offers first, and I haven't heard back. One day.

Vetteman61,
What are you waiting for? "One day" is today because by tomorrow it will be gone. If it's perfect for you then grab it, minus the $35 and use that to join the VCCA.
You have all ready found the best 31 information on the planet. Between Billy Boy's Site and the nearly real time info here you will not regret it.
Good luck
