My 1931 Sedan Special has a clock that is integral to the rearview mirror. Does anyone know if that was an option, or might it be an aftermarket mirror? I can't find a reference anywhere to this clock. The clock is on the right end of the mirror and has a pull cord to wind it. I assume it may only be a 24 hour clock. All I have found is the one that goes in the dash.
Thanks

The mirror clock for 1931 is featured in the Chevrolet Service News and the accessory catalog. The clock is an genuine Chevrolet "accessory" (not an option) that was installed at extra charge by the Chevrolet dealer.

Your clock sounds like it might be an aftermarket item (especially if the face of the clock does not have the Chevrolet Bow-Tie) since the correct Chevrolet accessory mirror clock was a stem wind and it had a black face with white numerals with the Chevrolet Bow-Tie on the face in the lower center. "Phinney-Walker - One Day" was also on the face of the clock in the top center of the face.

Thanks. I'm sure this is an aftermarket item. I posted a photo of it at http://bhheloeng.weebly.com/. It has a black face, but is also has no manufacturer markings on the face. It's difficult to see in the photo, but the two white rectangles have the words "Change Oil" and "Lubricate Chassis" next to them. This is all behind the glass of the mirror which I'm guessing you would write mileage on the white area of the glass with a grease pencil.

Yep, that is definitely an aftermarket item.

What years did these "Accessory Clock Mirrors" made available as a option for the Chevy Vehicles.

Again, they were not an option but an "accessory".

I would have to check my accessory catalogs to see what year the last accessory mirror clock was available, but different types of genuine Chevrolet "accessory" clock mirrors were available from 1931 through 1937 or 1938 as I remember.

Hey Ralph,

That's a cool looking clock mirror!

If it came with your car I'd leave it on. Unless your dead set on showing for max points.

It sort of falls into the bracket where ...the car has run with it for all these years that it's part of the cars history.

Definately a conversational piece.

But that's just my opinion.

Oh, I will definitely leave it in the car. I'm going to get the mirror re-silvered and see if I can find someone to work on the clock to get it running again. It runs for a while and then stops. Probably needs cleaning.

Getting the mirror re silvered is not a problem. Be sure the outline of the clock is well defined so they can block out that part.

I would purchase a quartz kit for the clock or send it out to be converted.

As you have been advised your clock and bracket are aftermarket and was not an accessory by Chevrolet. To my knowledge all mirror clocks have Chevrolet identifying marks such as a bowtie on the face.
